Youth Impact in Community
The youth of today are going to be the future of tomorrow. Young people need to know that they have an impact on what their world will form into. I will empower each one of my students, making sure they know that they matter and that they can create change. Students must have confidence and structure to be able to learn and grow, and my teaching will build these ideals to allow for constant individual development.
Art is a powerful source to build and enhance a community. Through respect, kindness, fun, and understanding I will build a classroom community where every child is supported not only by myself but every single one of their classmates. Our words and masterpieces will radiate positivity and excitement, that will lead to desire to learn and create more everyday. My students' interactions with each other will be filled with group collaboration, peer sharing, and words of kindness and support. Confidence will lead to good art making and each and every student to excel in school and life, and as a class we will work on building each other up. Curriculum that positively impacts a community environment will empower students to see that they make a difference. They’ll have to understand others and turn this knowledge into creative plans to involve their community. Student artwork will be spread across the school, eventually involving outside community members, opening up their ideas of what is possible through art.
Investigation and Self-Expression
Students need to know they can have fun and dig deep into their creativity, that art isn’t just about basic drawing techniques. Students, no matter the age, should never stop creating through investigation and experimentation. Lessons taught will be formed around their specific individual needs and focus on enhancing their known knowledge and skills. The broader ideas of lessons that will be taught include: self-expression, compassion, community, feelings, caring, culture, adventure, imagination, exploration, love, mindfulness, playfulness, tinkering, and wonder. They must utilize art to express their thoughts and feelings to hold a better understanding of themselves and others, ultimately making them a better citizen within their community, family and future.
Arts Integration and Life Skills
Arts can be used to enhance any subject taught and I will utilize students' prior knowledge in other aspects of school to enhance their learning overall. Arts Integration allows for assessments to be shown through a more creative and self enhancing form. This integration will build relationships within the school, form connections through various curriculums, and help reach those with varying learning styles. Students are in school to learn all subjects necessary, grow as an individual, and prepare themselves for the future. The integration of life skills, open minds, and confidence will set my students up for success in all classes of their educational career and every chapter of their life after.
